Afro-Asian Association for Justice Development is managed by its Board of Directors. Two representatives from each of the member organisations and one from the associate organisations constitute the board. The member organisations are CLEEN Foundation, Nigeria; International Commission of Jurists, Kenya,(ICJK) and Tata Institute of Social Sciences, India. The African Policing Civilian Oversight Forum (APCOF) is the associate member. In addition, two of the founding trustees from CLEEN Foundation and two ex officio members- Director of Program, CLEEN Foundation and Program Director, AAAJD are part of the Board.. As the interests of each Member Organisation and the actual places of acting of each managing director of the Board of Directors are spread over separate continents, they as well as the Board of Directors find it appropriate and necessary to set task partition or task distribution rules or guidelines defined in its Association Policy.

    Prof. Etannibi Alemika

    Chairperson

    Etannibi E.O. ALEMIKA is a Professor of Law in Criminology and Sociology at the University of Jos, Nigeria. His areas of competence are research, teaching, policing, organized crime, security sector reform, governance, human rights, democracy, conflict studies, criminal justice policy and reform.

    He has published widely in the areas of crime, police and policing, prisons, criminal justice, drug policy, security sector governance and organized crime in reputable journals like Journal of Criminal Justice; International Journal of Comparative and Applied Criminal Justice; Policy Studies; International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology, and Crime, Law and Social Change. He has considerable experience working with the police, prisons, intelligence department, and other security agencies in Nigeria and several international organizations and networks.

    Dr. Gad Peter

    Gad Peter has at various times worked with the League for Human Rights (LHR), Centre for the Advocacy of Justice and Rights (CAJR), Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme (NSRP) of the British Council, Creative Associates and Equal Access International.

    “He has more than 15 years of civil society work experience and has acquired knowledge and skills in human rights advocacy, management of not-for-profit organisations with a strong interest in areas of good governance, gender mainstreaming, community mobilisation, stakeholders’ management, monitoring, evaluation and learning and project circle management.

    Blessing Abiri

    Blessing Abiri holds an LL.M degree in Human Rights from the Central European University (CEU), Budapest, Hungary. She is a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Her work experience spans across issues on Police Accountability, Criminal Justice and Human rights.

    She is an Open Society Justice Initiative Fellow (2010 – 2012).  She has also been involved in publishing articles on policing accountability, domestic violence, and human rights.

    Elsy C. Sainna

    Elsy C. Sainna is the Executive Director of ICJ Kenya.

    Elsy is currently the Executive Director of the Kenyan Section of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ Kenya). She possesses extensive knowledge and expertise in public international law, human rights, gender studies, constitutional, policy, and legal reform. Her over twelve years of work experience have included legal research, writing on comparative jurisprudence, and advocacy initiatives geared towards improving the rule of law, human rights, governance systems, and the administration of justice in Kenya and the region.
    Elsy is a Leadership and Advocacy for Women in Africa (LAWA) fellow at the Georgetown University Law Center (GULC), USA.

    Elsy is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and holds a Master of Laws (LLM) with distinction in International Legal Studies from Georgetown University Law Center, Washington D.C, USA. She earned her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom (U.K.)

    Prof. Shalini Bharat

    Prof. Shalini Bharat is Director of TISS and Professor in the School of Health Systems Studies. Her areas of research include social and structural determinants of health with special reference to reproductive and sexual health, young people’s and women’s health, social aspects of HIV and TB including prevention and care, health vulnerabilities in the context of migration and mobility, and demographic transition among minority communities. She teaches Qualitative Research Methods, Public Health Ethics and Health Research Ethics to post-graduate and doctoral students, and is involved in organising capacity building workshops for doctoral students and early career faculty on qualitative research methods, research ethics, and scientific writing.

    She served as member of the Mission Steering Group of National Rural Health Mission and National Health Systems Resource Center, Ministry of Health & Family welfare, GoI (2007-2012) and is the Programme Director of The Global Fund supported Saksham Counselling Project for drug resistant TB patients in four Indian states. She serves on the Board of PHFI and India HIV/AIDS Alliance and is a member of several scientific advisory committees.
